Haute Cuisine: A Magazine
Haute Cuisine
DIGITAL
For a final essay in my American Studies course, we were tasked with writing an essay about something within foodways studies. I developed my essay into a magazine, instead, exploring the nuances of haute cuisine. I focused on visualizing the ironies of affluence and sustenance throughout the magazine. While this project is a few years old and my style and knowledge of layout design has much evolved, I will forever love this project as it combines my love and appreciation for food (culture) with thought-provoking design.

Each graphic, layout, and effect was done by me unless specified. The text on the inside is my actual paper and accompanying images are credited on the last page along with the text bibliography.
For the magazine, I am forever inspired by beautiful works such as Cereal, Kinfolk, and Cherry Bombe. They all show a minimalist but pops here-and-there style; I wanted this to feel like a mix of minimalism but pop art…drastically different styles but equally eye catching to me. In other words, I wanted my magazine to be refined but due to there being so much text and an overall flow in a paper that needed to be conveyed because this is a large portion of my grade, I tried to stray too far from super stylistic choices.
